Summer is finally here, and we could not be happier about it. In true islander style, we are looking forward to warm lazy days spent at the beach (under the filao trees of course) with the occasional dip in the ocean to cool off.
But enough daydreaming, let’s talk about what you need to do to keep your skin healthy this summer.
1. Sunscreen (SPF)
By far the most important aspect of your skin care routine, especially in summer, is to wear sunscreen, religiously every single day without fail. If you are spending the day at the beach, make sure to reapply your sunscreen after each dip in the ocean and throughout the day.
2. Mist, Mist, Mist Baby
Keep your face cool and hydrated during the day by using a face mist. Not a makeup fixing mist but a face mist (one filled with vitamins and other skin goodies).
3. Cleansing
It is primordial that you cleanse your face twice a day throughout the year, but especially in summer. Your skin produces more sebum in hotter weather, which makes your face oilier and more prone to break outs. To combat this, make sure to cleanse your face in the morning and double cleanse at night.
Quick tip: Double cleansing is essential if you wear makeup or sunscreen, as if you do not remove those, it will clog your skin which causes breakouts and all sort of other skin issues. The first step of double cleansing is to use an oil or gel cleanser. Remove with warm water and a face cloth. The second step of double cleansing is to use a cream cleanser.
4. Exfoliation
Your skin in summer can produce excess oil, but it can also look dry and dull if you don’t exfoliate regularly. Masks and exfoliators are an essential to remove the impurities and excess sebum from your face.
And don’t think you’re limited to exfoliating with a face scrub; a chemical exfoliating peel pad formulated with glycolic acid can help slough away dead skin cells that can cause the look of dull, lacklustre skin. Pixi Glow Peel Pads are a great product for this.
5. Active skincare ingredients
While you can keep using your actives, such as AHA and Retinol, make sure to be diligent with the sunscreen during the day if you use them. And if you will be spending the day at the beach, skip the actives the night before.
6. Moisturising
Switch your day moisturiser to a water based (hence lighter) moisturiser, such as Pixi Glowtion Day Dew.
However, give your skin its hydration hit by layering your moisturiser and serums at nights.
7. Serums
Serums are your secret ace. Your skin health can be dramatically improved by using the right serums.
During the day, make sure to use a Vitamin C serum, an antioxidant which will help sun damage by neutralising free radicals.
Use your more active serums at nights.
8. Face Roller
To cool off in the summer months, keep your face roller in the fridge and use it to remove some of the heat from your face.
9. Hydration
And of course, make sure to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

Until next time.
